unofficial members unanimously voted following motion proposed

by senior unofficial member (European) and seconded by senior

Chinese member begins. That unofficial members of this Coung11

in view of present serious requrrence of water shortage re spect-

fully urge that Hong Kong Government to press home authorities

immediately to sanotion commencement of second seotion Shingmun

Water scheme ends,

Unofficial members press most strongly

for Amediate commencement of Gorge Valley dax and consider it

so be the most pressing of all public needs. They promise

full support for financial measures necessary to meet loan charges.

The increasing severity of water shortage which is in no way

abated and probability of still further restriction of supply

emphasises necessity for earliest possible action, I undertook

to convey unofficial mankurs views to you and would again urge

your sanction to proceed with scheme be granted at the earliest

possible moment.
